Paradise Kiss (12 eps) Genres: Comedy, Drama, Romance, Shoujo, Slice of Life
My grades: Animation: 10/10 Story: 8/10 Characters: 8/10
Summary:
So what do you get when you put together a fussy, rebellious, Naive school girl, A sexy Blue Haired Bisexual that likes fashion design and a managerie of other colorfull characters such as a punk band artist, a pink haired chibi, and a transgender O.o Well you get Paradise kiss....
The story is about Yukari (aka Caraline), a diligent senior in high school that had always tried her hardest to be the best at school and make her mother proud (with little success). She was just beggining to doubt her purpose in life~ she couldn't suceed no matter how hard she tried and didn't enjoy it. Her day would fatefully be changed one day walking down the road when she is "Kidnapped" my a group of... strange people and passes out from the shock.
When she awakens she finds herself in some fancey underground bar which is the base of their in progress fashion design company called Paradise Kiss. They beg her to become a fashion model for their school's festival, but she freaks out, that she doesn't have time to be wasting with lazy people like them, that she has to study for her exams. On the way out she drops her school ID though, and another meeting is inevitable.
After meeting them again, especially George who has a way with women, she begins to consider helping them. Eventually her fealings turn to love and and after a fight with her mom she runs away from home and drops out of school to be a more independent women, a woman George will love.
The rest of the story revolves around Yukari maturing as a women and discovering her own weaknesses and what she truly wants to do with the rest of her life. Its mostly the "drama" type anime~ With love issues, life issues ect ect...
The animation is by the same people who did NANA (another anime I did a review for here) But if you compare them story wise, even though they're both drama, this one just doesn't have as much angst and suprises XD
I thought it was pretty good~ although I'm happy it was just 12 episodes~ any more would have been too much~ The story progression is pretty fast, it doesn't really leave you bored at any point I didn't think. There is a little bit of comedy in it as well to smooth over the slower parts~ The opening and ending are also ok~ I like the ending animationXD...
I recomend this if you're a fan of drama type anime^.^
Characters: 9/10, could have had more backstory, but I became very attached to them in some ways. Story: 8/10, I didn't like the very ending. And people need to make up their minds. Art: 7/10, I wasn't that crazy about the style, but I liked the style for the manga even less. Animation: 9/10, those weird stills with the crazy cartoons are a little...bothersome and take up time better spent on other things.
It had a lot of comedic moments and things are dropped in for no apparent reason, but I actually really enjoyed watching this. I wasn't expecting to. It's not the kind of thing I normally would have looked at twice, but it was short so I thought I'd give it a try. I felt a little let down at the end. There was so much built up in that series to have it end the way it did felt like a cop out. Like the writers didn't know where to go with the characters.
I really liked the opening song by Tommy Heavenly, but I've liked a few of her other albums as well.
The plot was always interesting and I never knew who was going to wind up with whom and it was a good kind of ambiguity. The story was not a typical love story with all the shoujo mushy crap, it was good and it was funny, but not in the same way that Ouran HS Host Club is funny. I enjoyed watching it and didn't feel like it was a waste of my time which is much better than many of the animes I have seen recently. ;)
