Basically this anime is about "Mushi", wich are a living creature that isn't human or plant, but still has life. Similar to ghosts, not every one can see them, and they can take very odd forms, and have different powers. There are also life streams full of mushi, that where ever it flows is abundant with life. The story is about a Mushishi (a person who studies Mushi) name Ginko. He goes around helping people and villages that are exeriencing "paranormal" problems due to the mushi. He occasionally collects mushi related Items that he sells as well. He also has a slight problem that mushi are attracted to him, so he can't stay anywhere too long... this is never explainded why.
Each episode is its own seperate story for the most part. While the stories are interesting, there isn't much development through out. Alot of the episodes seem repetitive. There is only one main character, ginko. He's pretty cool, and looks cool, but there are only 1 1/2 episodes that focus on him even though he's the hero of every episode. Another negative of the show is, while the art of the scenes are awsome, and the character design is ok, all the characters look alike (except the main character who has white hair and green eyes, becuase of a mushi related accident). The ending isn't very good, it doesn't resolve anything, becuase there isn't anything to resolve, its just like all the other episodes.
Just for more information, here are some facts about Mushi.
1. Close your eyes, all the little lights spots you can see moving when your eyes are closed... those are mushi.
2. If you stare at the mushi life stream too long you'll go blind
3. If you see an upside down rainbow thats a mushi, don't chase it or you might loose your mind...
4. If you see a random string dangling down from the sky DON"T GRAB IT...
5. If you start having phychic prediction, you should throw your pillow out...
